Solana wrapped SOL wSOL problems and how to unwrap it

SOL is Solana's native token. It runs on its own system, separate from the SPL token standard that other tokens on Solana use. When you want to trade SOL on a DEX like Raydium, supply liquidity, or place bids on an NFT marketplace, you cannot use native SOL directly. The programs that run those actions only understand SPL tokens. So SOL gets wrapped.

The wrapped version is wSOL. It is exactly one wSOL for one SOL. It is not a different asset with a different price. It is SOL in a different technical format.

How users end up with wSOL

You can acquire wSOL without meaning to. Common scenarios:

The key problem: wSOL does not show up as SOL in most wallet balances. Your wallet may display 5 SOL and also 0.3 wSOL separately. The wallet reads both balances. But many wallet interfaces merge them poorly. You might see your total SOL balance as lower than you expect, while wSOL sits invisible in a token account.

Why wSOL and SOL are not instantly interchangeable

They are interchangeable by design. The unwrap mechanism exists. But the step is not automatic. You must explicitly tell the network to close the wSOL token account and release the SOL back to your native balance.

If you do not know the unwrap step exists, you can sit on wSOL for weeks. You might think you lost funds. This is a common support complaint on Solana.

Step-by-step: unwrap wSOL on Jupiter

Jupiter provides a direct unwrap function. It is the simplest method for most users.

  1. Go to jup.ag.
  2. Connect your wallet (Phantom, Backpack, Solflare, etc.).
  3. Click the "Swap" tab. Below the token selection fields, look for the text that says "You have wSOL to unwrap" or similar. Jupiter detects wSOL in your wallet automatically.
  4. Click "Unwrap all wSOL" or enter a specific amount.
  5. Confirm the transaction in your wallet. This is a Solana transaction. It costs a small fee in SOL for the network.
  6. The wSOL disappears from your token account. Your native SOL balance increases by that amount.

Jupiter does not charge an extra fee for this. Only the standard Solana transaction fee applies.

Step-by-step: unwrap wSOL by closing the token account

You can also unwrap manually by closing the wSOL associated token account (ATA). This is more technical but works in any wallet that lets you manage token accounts.

  1. Open your wallet's token list. Find wSOL.
  2. If your wallet supports "Close account" or "Remove" for token accounts, select it. This action unwraps all wSOL in that account and sends the SOL to your native balance.
  3. In Phantom, for example: click the wSOL token. Click the three dots. Choose "Close account". Confirm.
  4. In Solflare: find wSOL, click the gear icon, then "Close token account".

Your wallet may also offer an "Unwrap" button directly on the wSOL entry. This does the same thing.

Warning: If you close the token account and you still have wSOL somewhere else (in a different ATA or in a DEX position), you only unwrap what was in the closed account. Check all your wSOL balances.

What not to do

Do not send wSOL to a CEX exchange address that expects native SOL. Some exchanges treat wSOL and SOL as the same. Many do not. You could lose the deposit. Always unwrap first.

Do not ignore small wSOL balances. They accumulate. A few cents here and there across multiple accounts add up.

Why this matters on gokuofsolana.xyz

This page exists because Solana tokens like GOKU trade on DEXs such as Raydium. Trading pairs involve wSOL. If you swap GOKU for SOL, the SOL you receive is usually native SOL - but not always. Some interfaces default to wSOL. Check your wallet after any trade.

As of August 31, 2026, GOKU trades at $0.0003132 with a market cap of $313,237 and 24-hour volume of $78.5. Liquidity on the Raydium pair is $64,486.96. Twenty-eight transactions occurred in the last 24 hours. The token launched October 26, 2024. None of this changes the wSOL problem. If you hold wSOL, you must unwrap it to spend it as regular SOL.

The unwrap fix is a two-click action. It costs a few cents. Knowing it exists saves confusion.
