Solana RPC request timed out or 429 too many requests fix
RPC nodes are the middlemen between your wallet and the Solana blockchain. When you check a balance or send a transaction, your wallet sends a request to an RPC node. That node queries the chain and returns the data. Every Solana wallet uses an RPC endpoint, and most wallets ship with a default public endpoint.
Public RPC endpoints are shared. Everyone using the same wallet software hits the same servers. During high network activity, those servers get hammered and they respond with rate limits. You see error 429. You see "request timed out." Your balances take forever to load, transactions fail to submit, and the wallet feels broken.
The root cause is congestion at the RPC level, not on the Solana chain itself. The chain may be processing blocks fine. The public RPC provider just cannot keep up with demand from thousands of wallets.
Symptoms you will notice
Loading your GOKU balance in Phantom or Solflare takes more than a few seconds. Transaction submission spins for a while then returns "timed out." Swaps fail with "429 too many requests." The wallet interface itself becomes sluggish. These symptoms come and go with network traffic.
The fix: switch to a dedicated RPC
Stop using the public default. Get a dedicated RPC endpoint from a provider like Helius or QuickNode. These services give you your own private connection, so you are not competing with the crowd.
Free tiers exist. Helius offers a free plan with rate limits around 25 requests per second; QuickNode has a free tier too. Paid plans increase those limits to hundreds or thousands of requests per second. What you need depends on how heavily you trade. If you are making a few swaps per day, the free tier usually works. If you run bots or do high-frequency trading, you pay. No provider has unlimited capacity - even paid plans have caps. Check the provider's documentation for your plan's exact request-per-second limit.
How to configure it in Phantom
Open Phantom. Click the gear icon for settings. Scroll to "RPC." The default says "Solana Mainnet (Beta)." Click it, select "Custom RPC," paste your dedicated endpoint URL, and save.
Test it. Check a balance. Send a small test transaction. If the endpoint is working, the wallet responds normally.
How to configure it in Solflare
Open Solflare. Go to Settings. Find "Network." Click the current RPC endpoint. Select "Custom RPC." Enter your Helius or QuickNode URL. Save.
Same test procedure. If the connection fails, double-check the URL - copy-paste errors are the most common problem.
Privacy trade-off
The public default RPC endpoint is run by the wallet provider. They see your wallet's IP address and every request you make. When you switch to Helius or QuickNode, that provider now sees the same data. Your activity is visible to someone else.
Some RPC providers log requests. Some anonymize data. Some sell aggregated analytics. Read the privacy policy of whatever provider you choose. If privacy matters to you, consider running your own RPC node. That requires a server with decent specs and Solana node software. It is not simple.
A dedicated RPC does not encrypt your transaction data. The blockchain is public. Anyone can see what your wallet does; the RPC provider just sees it a few seconds earlier.
What this does not fix
Changing your RPC endpoint does not fix slippage settings, insufficient funds, or expired blockhashes. Those are separate wallet errors. This fix only addresses timeouts and rate-limit errors caused by overloaded public RPC servers.
For GOKU specifically

Switching to a dedicated RPC removes that bottleneck. The wallet becomes responsive again. Transactions submit on the first try. The fix takes two minutes and costs nothing on a free tier. It is worth doing before you need it.
